What I'm reading Wednesday - The Help

I recently read "The Help" by Kathryn Stockett and loved it! It was a really interesting read about life as a women of color during the Civil Rights Movement. It followed the lives of several African American women working in the homes of white women. It surprised me that the women were treated like slaves though they had long been free. I was actually a good way through the book before I realized that it was not written as a book about slave help. The author painted great pictures with words - she described places and people so well that I had a great mental movie in my head. I started reading the book one afternoon and went to sleep before I finished. I couldn't stop thinking about it and ended up getting up super early to finish the book. I heard great things about this book & put off reading it for a long time as I wasn't sure it would be something I would like but I ended up loving it. It is a great read & I highly recommend checking it out!
