Dear Maintenance Man,
Although you sure are friendly and awfully chipper a list of acceptable activities does not include power-washing the building at 8:30 am! Nor does it include stomping through the house next door slamming every available door and window - they all function, promise! Next time you are evaluating the trash pick-up schedule, please do not hesitate to consult me or my husband - 7:30 am on a Saturday morning is not really convenient for those of us who want to sleep in on the weekend. Let me know if you have any issues which need further clarification.

Well, now that I am fully awake, I'll get on with my day. Happy Wednesday! Enjoy it!

It's Jesus day!

Yay for Jesus day! Joe and I were just talking and this is a snippet of our morning conversation, lol. I even heard him say, we should get t-shirts made, how funny!

So, Spa Night last night was amazing! First off, the neighbor's daughter was at our house and when I went to leave she told me "make a new friend" - how absolutely sweet is that?!? It was exactly the encouragement I needed since I was a little apprehensive, especially when I pulled into the parking lot and my little civic was the only car - everything else in the lot was a minivan! Every single person was so nice and welcoming and I met some really cool people. For the first time since we've been here, I feel like I am starting to belong. I finally feel like myself again. Hallelujah! Last night was so encouraging and I really hope I can get to know even more people. Two of the girls I really felt like I connected with live in my development - one is even in walking distance! So exciting! Oh and ps, I drove the whole way there and back without stalling my car at all!!! That is a momentous indeed!

We have a full day today - church, then off to buy some chairs for the patio (we have no where to sit), and we're going to work on the back yard. I have a feeling it's going to be quite the process as we are planning on tearing up the whole yard. We realized the other day that we have NO grass - it's all just weeds and these pricker plants. We're going to try to make it a nice yard. So step one starts today. Oh and we will be going to the beach today - after all that work, yay!

Praise our God for He is good!

I love the weekend!

So the neighbors asked us if we could walk their dog around two today, of course it definitely wasn't a problem. The dog, Denali, is an absolute sweetheart - she is a boxer after all and boxers (especially Harley-pup ♥ #19) have a special place in my heart. Joe and I decided to take a nice long walk around the neighborhood. He brought his camera and we grabbed a ball and Denali and set off. Gorgeous day for a walk - the weather couldn't be more perfect. We walked for a little over an hour and are both absolutely wiped out! Hopefully we wore Denali out too! Joe's already passed out on the couch and I'm not too far behind him. That sun must have taken more out of us then we realized! Here's to lazy Saturday afternoons (♥ #20) and naps (♥ #21)!
I have fun plans for tonight (spa night with the ladies from church, I hope it will be fun) so I better rest up! Off to catch some Zzzz's.

This ain't your Geico's Gecko

Geico's gecko is a friendly little creature, in fact, I think he's rather cute. Special shout-out to Kevin - he works for Geico cause he's cool like that and brought me a stuffed gecko one time. I love the Geico Gecko, he doesn't bother me. On the other hand, his real-life counterparts do - big time! I had my second gecko incident yesterday :( I guess before I tell about the second one I have to start with the first... so here goes, first things first.

(1) Gecko incident #1 (a.k.a I almost kill myself on the stairs while Joe watches aimlessly doing nothing). That pretty much sums it up but I'll give you the details anyway. We were on our way up to bed, I was following Joe up the stairs when out of the corner of my eye, I saw movement. I turned to focus on what it was and it was a gecko, and I freaked out, big time. In hindsight, if I just would have calmly walked up the stairs, I probably would have been ok. Instead I screamed and tried desperately to get up the stairs away from it. The more I tried to get away from it, the more difficult it was. As I flailed about, I watched as Joe stood at the top of the stairs doing nothing. In his defense, I was pretty scared and he probably was afraid he'd get hurt if he'd intervened. He told me later that I wasn't hurt or bleeding so he just waited until I got control of myself before he went and evicted the little guy. In the end, I ended up with not only a bruised and sore wrist/arm but also a bruised pride. Oh well, we all lived to see another day - even the gecko.
(2) Gecko incident #2 (a.k.a much better than the first episode but still freaky) I'm on the phone with a potential employer doing a phone interview. I step outside to get some fresh air and a gecko runs across my hand (which is on the door frame) and into our house. Those little guys are fast little bandits, I tell you. Since I am on the phone, I manage to stifle my scream and shut the door. I finish the call and go inside where the little dude is hanging out on my wall. I.do.not.like.this.not.one.bit. I am really not into rodents in my home - and a rodent is anything I don't like - bugs, mice, spiders, etc (and geckos fall into to the etc part of that rodent definition). I quickly consider my options
(1) Call Joe at work (bad idea)
(2) Go get a neighbor to help (bad idea - she does have two little kids plus in the time it would take me to get over there, the little bugger could be anywhere in my house...)
(3) Call the leasing office (bad idea - I don't think they deal with issues like this)
(4) Take matters into my own hands
So guess, which option I pick?!? You're right. I gather up my materials - a colander, a broom, a dustpan. I first try putting the colander over the gecko in hopes that he'll crawl inside and then I can set him free. Instead that guy moves so fast, I lop off his tail! Whoops! That's what you get for breaking-and-entering little dude. I freak out slightly. Then get the broom. Manage to shew him outside and the ordeal is over - hallelujah!
Seriously though, the whole thing gives me heart palpitations. I don't like these things ones bit, they surprise me and not in a good way. I think part of the problem is though they look like this:

I see this:

THIS IS NOT AN EXAGGERATION (a little dramatic maybe but seriously this is what runs through my head)
I wish I was kidding about the heart palpitations. It took me several minutes for my heart to stop rapidly beating after each of the incidences... even googling the images made my heart rate quicken a bit. And you think I'm kidding..... Oh I wish I was.

In other news, I have a new friend!!! I know, that is big news indeed! The neighbor across the street and I have hung out a few times now. I love getting to know her and her adorable kids (3 year old girl and 3 week old boy). Yesterday we went and saw "Dear John" - I loved the book and wasn't sure how I'd feel about the movie. And now, I'm still not sure. You see, we went and purchased tickets to see the movie at 12:45 - we go in, get the kids and ourselves settled into the theater and of course the movie has already started. We watch and then the movie ends, I was thinking geez that two hour movie went by really fast and I was def confused on some of the details. Tina and I looked at our tickets and realized that instead of giving us tickets for the 12:50 showing, the lady had given us tickets and directions for the 11:45 showing. So without realizing it, we were already an hour into the movie when we started. I went and talked to the ticket people and they told us we could go to the one that was currently showing (and we'd watch from probably the same place - an hour in) or they could refund our money (we took the refund). It was definitely an unusual day but we still had fun. Maybe next week, we'll get to see the whole movie.
And finally, the moment you've all been waiting for....
Happy Friday Folks! Weekend's here - enjoy it!

¡Es un buen día!

Today is a good day, already, I can feel it. One major plus is that I am out of bed and have had breakfast and it's only 9:30 am! Now I just need to figure out the plan for the rest of the day....

Since I was "Wonder Woman" yesterday and got so much accomplished, I'm not really sure what I am going to get into today. Yesterday I was super motivated and managed to hard core clean the entire house - I mean we're talking three loads of laundry, swept and washed floors, cleaned bathrooms, washed the bathmats, put up a new shower curtain, changed the sheets on the bed and made dinner and talked to Alicia, my Mom and John on the phone...pretty amazing if I do say so myself. Plus I read most of another book last night, I love my Kindle (♥ #17) ! I really didn't think I would like it, I love to turn pages in a book and feel the pages on my fingers but this little machine is pretty cool. If you're thinking about getting one, I highly recommend it!

Now get ready.....
♥ -day pics are here!! (i know you are so excited, I mean after all you've been waiting with bated breath, right?!? i know, me too) Actually, I'm just excited that I took and figured out how to upload these things managing to not only find the right cable but figure out how to use Joe's fancy photo program to get the photos on here. I was thoroughly impressed.

First a super cute Valentine's Day sign I bought - also note the dig pic frame in the shot too and my Wedding plate!! So excited that I finally found a stand for it. I looked everywhere for one and then suddenly as soon as I stopped looking, I found exactly what I needed! Without further adèu:

V-day presents from Joe - I LOVE that balloon, I think it is one of the cutest things ever!! Love, love, love it!!
Sign that Joe hung - makes this place feels like it's being lived in and a place to finally hang our keys! Finally we no longer have to do the fiveminutesearchforkeysendinginafight dance just to get out the door. Yes, folks them days are over!
The plant I am going to plant in our yard, in yet another effort to make this place feel occupied. I want to keep this plant alive, so far so good, but I've only had it two days so I'll keep you updated. Can't decide if I want to get a pretty pot for it or actually plant it in the ground. Either way, it will be an interesting endeavor.
Love note from my husband....what a great thing to see in the morning! I got him the "Your love drives me bananas" card and special thanks to Meghan for the incredibly hilarious Valentine's Day card, can't wait to see you in 8 days girl!!!
I just heard a huge racket outside and remembered that yes indeedy it is Wednesday and it is trash day. I forgot to put it out, whoops! *

So, I've had this song "Until the Whole World Hears" by Casting Crowns. What a great song to have stuck in my head. Love it! I reached my max listening hours in Pandora for the month (I didn't even know there was a max listening amount?!?) But I can't listen to it again until March 1, unless I decide I want to pay, which i do not...hello, I'm all about free. So I have been streaming KLove radio, love the positive music. I am so sick of hearing the same music over and over again... if I hear Kesha's Tik tok or Blah Blah Blah or Lady Gaga one more time, I think I might lose it! I'm loving the positivity of KLove - it helps boost my attitude and it's something different. And trust me, I needed a little "something different" in my life...

Well now that I have breakfasted and blogged, I'm not sure what I am going to do with the rest of my day. I can only think of one thing I need (a corkscrew) and god forbid I get that too early, otherwise who knows what will happen. Could make for an interesting day....
Happy Wednesday - only two more days til Friday, friends! Oooo that song just came on! :) Enjoy your day!

*Just looked outside and my husband did it for me!!! Have I mentioned how awesome he is?!? Well, take note, it will probably come up again!

A little behind (as usual)

Check out
MckMama's blog to participate in the Not-Me-Fun and tell us all the things you absolutely "did-not-do" this week/weekend.

I know it's not Monday but since Joe had off yesterday, today feels like Monday for me, so here goes:
***
I most certainly did not spend my Friday night shredding enough documents to fill two 13 gallon trash bags. I also didn't clean out other random stuff in the guest room, enough random stuff to fill another trash bag.
Perhaps we should have gone through all this stuff before we got married and moved.

***
I did not give my husband a "hunny-do-list". I really didn't.
I just happened to keep a list for my own purposes and crossed things off as he did them. He may not even know the list existed but at least all my signs/artwork got hung & now this places feels a little more homey (
♥ #10)
***
I absolutely didn't throw a fit in the target parking lot and get out of the car and make Joe park. I never let myself get frustrated like that!
I hate when I can't do things perfectly, like drive a stick shift car & I hate admitting that it scares me a bit. I'm afraid I'll hurt someone else, myself, or blow the car up (in that order).

***
Totally didn't wake up at 6am to spend the next two hours facebooking and blogging...nope definitely not.....
****
Ok...enough about what I "didn't" do. It's hard to write like that, I keep confusing myself and who am I kidding, we all know I really did that stuff anyway... so onto what I did do:

Totally went to an awesome bar-b-que at the neighbors. Good food and a fun time. Brought spinach dip (store bought but still amazing ♥ #11) and left over cake (it was such a big hit, I ended up going home and getting the rest - they devoured it!) They even busted out an old N64 and played Goldeneye! Totally made me think of my brother (♥ #12) the whole time!
***
Am really proud of my husband, he did something so thoughtful for the neighbors - it made my heart happy! :) Made my wish that I had thought of it & had the courage to do it. I.will.work.on.that.promise.
***
Skyped with my Mom and Dad!!! (
♥ #13 can we say best parents ever, I know I'm a little biased but seriously they are awesome and if my mom was here she'd comment on my use of seriously... wouldn't you, Mom?)
:)
***
Got the most gorgeous roses, M&M's, balloons for Valentines Day! Oooo and did I mention Vera Bradley (♥ #14) and new sunglasses :) Best ♥-day ever, hands down!
***
Ate Chinese takeout on Valentine's day. What can I say, Joe and I were both craving it!
***
Read an entire book on my Kindle yesterday. Great read and it was free - love it!
***
I was sick all last week and this weekend. I couldn't breathe whenever I slept, Sunday morning I woke up abruptly at 3:30 am (not being able to breathe will do that do a person). I got up and watched reruns in the guest room until Joe woke up. Joe stayed strong but finally caught it Sunday night :( sorry hunny! BUT we got some awesome medicine that made us feel amazing. So we are on the upswing, finally! It's about time!
***
Made some kick-butt blueberry muffins. NOT from a mix - I'm talking used my Betty-Crocker cookbook (♥ #15) kind of muffins. And they were amazing. So amazing that I just made them yesterday and there is one left. And I definitely had help in eating them, trust me.

All in all it was a great weekend. I'm pretty sure I fell in love with my husband all over again (♥ #16). He is the most sweetest, thoughtful, caring, loving person, he's my world. I was so lucky that he had a four day weekend & was blessed to spend some extra time with him - extra Joe time is always a plus in my book!
Well, I have a lot of lofty plans for today - laundry, more cleaning (will it ever end) and several other things I want to accomplish. Hopefully I have a successful day!
Happy (fat) Tuesday friends!

So much for the list

So far everything on my list for today has been an EPIC failure!! I stalled the car a bazillion times and was almost in tears trying to get out of the store- Joe assures me it will get easier. I did manage to go to Office Max and fax a document to Joe, go to the commissary, do two loads of laundry, look for (and apply for) some jobs, made a kick-butt meal of chicken, rice, veggies & even made one of Joe's favorite things, deviled eggs! Everything else is not going as planned, the guest room hasn't been touched & neither have the thank-you cards but at least my resume's now up-to-date!
Anyone have any good plans for Valentine's day? Joe just told me he has a four-day weekend this weekend...guess I'll have to come up with an idea & come up with it quick!
Today I...
want to drive to the library without stalling my car
want to clean my guest room
want to finish my thank-you cards
want to cook another amazing meal
want to hang some art
want to print my photos
want to make a new friend
want to reconnect with an old friend
want to figure out how to download and watch this weeks episodes of American Idol

These are my goals for today, I'll let you know how it goes. Oh and by the way, the enchiladas last night were amazing - definitely on the "keeper" list! I'll post more about that when I get through my life for today!

Makapuu Lighthouse 01/31/2010

One Sunday a few weekend agos, we met up with some of Joe's coworkers to go hiking to Makapuu Lighthouse. At first it was just us and Neddah T (I'll use his nickname, lol) but as the hike went on, we met up with several others that Joe and Neddah knew. The hike was super easy which was great because it was super hot. It was a nice paved trail with gorgeous views and a nice ocean-side breeze - perfect! We couldn't actually hike to the lighthouse as that part of the trail was closed off, but it was still fun!

Me at the trail head (see the paved trail in the background :) )

Neddah T and I at a scenic overlook (Koko head is in the background)

Joe and I

At the lighthouse

We even ran into a rock climber - ummm is he crazy?!? That's a long way down and I don't see anything but rocks and ocean....

This is as close to the edge as I would go...it was a very long way down!
So on the way back, Joe and Neddah decided to hike back down the mountain, not the way we came up but down the other side of the mountain. As in straight down the mountain where there was NO trail! The picture above is what it looked like, needless to say it was not easy by any stretch of the imagination! The picture below is me at the bottom of the hike - we hiked down the side of the mountain on the right - I guess that's what I get for hiking with two army guys! Lesson learned!

Whew, a whirlwind recap of the last five days!

Sesame Street was one of my favorite shows growing up. When I was a kid, my favorite episode was "Big Bird Goes to Japan" and my mom said I would walk around the house saying "Ohio" (good morning in Japanese) - which I learned from the show. Snuffleupagus was one of my favorite characters. Wow, I just realized that you know my life is boring when I start out talking about a show that I haven't seen in probably twenty-some years.... wooo-weee sorry about that! The whole point of that entrance was just to say that I am sick of being sick! It's been two and a half days and that is two and a half days to many to spend in gorgeous Hawaii feeling anything less than fantastic! I'll spare y'all the details but just know 'it ain't pretty' - I knew there was a reason "in sickness and in health" was in our vows...
A lot has happened in the past several days and I've been a bad blogger and haven't been updating, I fill you in now. I'll start with current and work my way back....
Yesterday was Joe's birthday. I managed to make him his favorite cake yesterday (Funfetti) and even more impressive was able to clean up a bit before he got home. I was excited for him to open his presents - I got him a tripod and a really cool camera backpack. I had put a lot of research into finding a good carrying case for his camera - he really liked it, so that was good. We even put it to good use last night by heading to the beach to take some sunset pics. Sadly, we missed the sunset by a few minutes but he still managed to get some really cool photos!
Monday was a pretty fun day. My neighbor Jamie, invited me to go to the NEX (Navy Exchange in Honolulu - it's like a big mall) with her an her son Robert (14 months). We had a really good time and it was nice to get to spend some time with Jamie - she is really cool and we get along well. It's just a shame she is moving this week. The rest of the day I ran errands and practiced driving my new (to me) car!! It's my ♥ #6* - a silver Honda Civic and it's a stick-shift. So far I am doing pretty well. Joe and I decided it was high time to get me some wheels as I was absolutely going stir crazy being stuck in a house for 12-14 hours a day by myself. We also had two cases where I really needed a car - one time I even ended up having to take a taxi - a $65 taxi!! Never again!
*just to clarify my ♥ #6 is the fact that I have a car, not necessarily the car itself - my silver scion has a special place in my heart, lol

Sunday, we went to church and it was a really good sermon. So far, we really like going there & hope to get to meet some more people (♥ #7) ! We ran some errands and then met up with the neighbors in the evening. We had a really fun time hanging out! And no, we did not watch the Superbowl. I did manage to catch up on the commercials though later on!
Saturday Joe worked :( and I putzed around the house...nothing too exciting there!

So that officially concludes the five day recap that I so desperately needed to post! So sorry for the delay! Since I hear it's snowing like mad in Maryland, stay warm and drink some hot chocolate for me! I'm making enchilada's in my covered baker (♥ #8) from pampered chef. I'm super excited about it - I LOVE enchiladas (♥ #9), I'll let you know how it turns out!

"I was here" - Lady Antebellum ♥ #5
You will notice me
I'll be leavin' my mark, like initials carved in an old oak tree
you wait and see
maybe I'll write like Twain wrote
maybe I'll paint like Van Gough,
cure the common cold
i don't know but I'm ready to start cuz i know in my heart

I wanna do something that matters
say something different
something that sets the whole world on it's ear
i wanna do somethin better, with the time i've been given
and i wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
and leave nothin less that something that says i was here

I will prove you wrong
if you think im all talk, your in for a shock
cuz this streams too strong, and before too long
maybe i'll compose symphonies
maybe i'll fight for world peace
cuz i know it's my destiny to leave more that a trace of myself in this
place

I wanna do something that matters
say something different
something that sets the whole world on it's ear
i wanna do somethin better, with the time i've been given
and i wanna try to touch a few hearts in this life
and leave nothin less that something that says i was here

And i know that i, i will do more than just pass through this life
i'll leave nothin less that somethin that says i was here, i was here, i
was here, i was here

Wanna do somethin that matters
somethin that says i was here
wanna do somethin that matters
somethin that says i was here, i was here

Slacker

Yes, I am a slacker.... i didn't post a #3 yet. What can I say, the day just got away from me yesterday. Since arriving in Hawaii, I have had some insatiable (and frankly quite strange) cravings - McDonald's French Fries, Fruit Parfaits, Chips and have been putting salt on everything (and no there is no bun in this oven.... so we can stop the speculation right there). That's why today's loves (you get two since I missed one yesterday) are both food related! Yay!

♥ #3
Safeway select coconut pineapple ice cream!!! Amazing! If you know me, you know I LOVE ice cream - like a lot. Right now there are three half-gallons in my freezer (ssshhh don't tell anyone) and I do account for ice cream in my budget. This is seriously probably the best ice cream I have ever had, like in my entire life (though the Peachy Paterno ice cream I had visiting PSU with Beth was a very close second). I love this ice cream because it doesn't taste all chemical - it's just the good stuff...and man is it good! Might have to go get me a bowl.....

♥ #4
M&Ms
I don't know where my recent love for these candies has come from... My great-grandmother Blonnie (yes my namesake) loved M&Ms, we even threw her an M&M themed birthday party once. She called them her "happy pills" and kept them in a glass canister. I haven't thought about that in a long time nor have I thought about M&Ms in a long time. Either way, I have been in a "must have M&M's" mindset since I've stepped foot in Hawaii. Every gas station, every grocery store I tell Joe that I need some M&Ms. Finally we bought "the big box" at Costco so now I don't have to worry about getting my "fix", I can just walk to the cabinet! I've got it bad folks, real bad...

Sorry no new pictures to post...

Today I...
received a great e-mail from a great friend
got a really nice voice mail from my brother (love you bud!)
had some great comments on fb
made a kick-butt meatloaf (mamma's recipe, hubby's request - i think it's his fav - we only ate it twice last week!)
had 30 minutes to go to Costco and Home depot - we made it home with everything we needed with 13 minutes to spare! I'm pretty sure that's a record!
watched way to many episodes of How I Met Your Mother - almost done Season 4!
did two loads of laundry
have amazing curly hair - (they're "pretty curls" - I love this weather!!!)
started watching Sisters and Brothers (darn Joe for getting me hooked on another show!! and I think I have it backwards - let's go with Brothers and Sisters)

Figured I better post this today, since I'm not sure what tomorrow holds. Things have been pretty quiet around here recently, nothing too exciting going on but we did go hiking and geocaching this weekend. As soon as Joe uploads the photos, I will definitely post! Promise!
I'm sure you all are tucked in your beds, sleep well, until tomorrow friends!

It rained today - a glorious long soaking rain! It was beautiful! One of my most favorite sounds in the whole world is the sound of rain on a tin roof. I don't have a tin roof but the sound of rain on the windows was still nice!

Happy Love Month
In honor of the month of February, here's to a series on things I love! Enjoy!

First things first, I'm going to start with my husband! Perhaps, one of the most patient and thoughtful men out there (I may be a little biased :) ), he has handled this first month of marriage splendidly. We did all of the major life stressors (getting married, moving, changing jobs) at one time and he has handled all the transitions with an amazing attitude. He has just been amazing, I couldn't get through this without him. A quote from "Lord of the Rings" reminds me how I feel about him: "I would rather share one lifetime with you than face all the ages of this world alone."

Corny, yes, but oh so true!
Love you hun, happy first month of marriage!
