Catch up

Since it has been quite awhile since my last post, I figured a picture recap was in order! I have been super busy with school - last semester I took Anatomy and Physiology 1, Life-span Development and Intro to Nursing - all online. The author of my A&P textbook is actually associated with University of Hawaii, which I thought was pretty neat.

My A&P class actually mailed me lab supplies including a sheep's brain and a cow's eye so I could do at home dissections. It ended up being really fun & I actually enjoyed it! Don't worry there aren't any dissection pictures in this post (though I did get some cool pics). This semester I am only taking A&P II & am really looking forward to it - it is so fascinating!
My skeleton that I actually use a lot more than I thought I would to review.

I had a minor procedure done mid-may and my Mom was able to fly in. It was so great to see her & spend quality time with her. We were even able to spend Mother's day together, which was wonderful! I miss her (and the rest of my family) so much, it was so great to have her here!!
The weekend after my mom left, Joe got baptized! It was a great day of celebration and we were so excited that some of our friends could join us! It was a beautiful day on the beach and I was so proud of my husband!!
Memorial day weekend was a great time of remembrance for us. We went to the Punchbowl, where they had bunch of American Flags set up. 34,000 veterans are interred at the Punchbowl and another 28,000+ names of those missing in action or lost/buried at sea are inscribed on the staircase - that's a lot of sacrifice. It was such a neat sight, each on of the little flags is over someone's grave. To see all of those little flags, remembering all those who were military members, really put everything into perspective.

We had a BBQ at our house where we ate some amazing Pineapple Fluff and chocolate cake! Both recipes were awesome & I have made them several more times, since. It was fun spending time with our neighbors! We set up a Slip 'n slide in the backyard - the neighbor kids (and Joe, of course) loved it! It was fun to hear them having so much fun. When the kids were taking a break, we looked over and saw a bunny hanging out at the slide, drinking the water and trying to eat my (volunteer) squash plant! It was pretty funny - he was pretty big and seemed tame. Word on the street is that he belongs to some neighbors down the street and gets out often, I will have to keep an eye out on my squash plant!

We finished off Memorial Day weekend by going to the Lantern Ceremony in Honolulu with about 40,000 other people. I really wanted to get a lantern to honor my good friend, Jordan, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2009. We waited in a super long line and sadly they ran out of lanterns. We were able to get his name placed on a community lantern. I sent pictures to his family and it seemed like they really appreciated the remembrance. I was really glad to be able to honor my friend.
The ceremony was beautiful and one of the neatest things. It was so cool to watch the shoreline and see all of the lanterns light up! They had beautiful music playing and it was such a nice, peaceful time of remembrance. We started the ceremony on one side and walked around as we went back to our car & I was struck by how quiet everyone was, for 40,000 people, this was quite a feat but it just goes to show what an important time of remembrance it was.
Well, that is pretty much a recap of my May. June has been relatively uneventful, just been working on school and have been working hard to find a job. I went to one interview & on my way out, a lady stopped me in the elevator and complimented me on my outfit. She was impressed that I was wearing closed-toed shoes and stockings with my suit - she said most of the people here in Hawaii just wear flip-flops, even to interviews! The lady told me to call her if I ever needed a job, I ended up giving her my business card and resume and she called me the next day!! Unfortunately it didn't work out but I work really hard on trying to be professional and it was nice for it to be recognized! Keep your fingers crossed that I get a job soon!
